Be able to delete multiple messages by selecting versus one at a time.

Use the same floating "select all" icon that has just been added to the conversations screen. Then i can select all messages from a contact, and manually unselect a few that I want to keep.

Yes..especially within a message thread. ..needs a 'mark all' so you can go back and unmark the messages you may want to keep. At the moment you need to do 1 at a time and if the thresd is long it takes forever.
