What do the colored bars alongside the text mean? I just typed about for lines of text, on the left side is this green bar with what looks t

Vertically, along the left side of my text, there is a green bar with an exclamation point at the bottom. What is that? What does it mean? Are we just supposed to figure this stuff out or did you ever think that maybe there should be a tutorial?
