I have a smart watch and when I receive multiple messages from someone the watch reads "2 unread messages from..." because this is what the motivation reads until you expand the notification. if at all possible there should be an option within the settings to keep the messages bundled as they are now or have them come through as individual text messages so that people with a smart watch are able to review all texts without having to pick up the phone. the standard messaging app does this and so does alot of other great messaging however I can't bring myself to switch to any different apps because they don't have the same charm and features texted offers.
