On large phones it can be tricky to access the settings menu with one hand.

My suggestion is that you add a drag down gesture in the main screen to access the settings. It wouldn't cause any conflict as this gesture is yet to be used by your application in this screen.
Just like you would access the phone general settings in the app launcher with newer phones.
