What bothers me about group messages is that my phone continues to notify me with Each message from Each person. I can mute notifications for the group, but then I forget to unmute, or to check it periodically.

Instead, I'd like to be able to set group message notifications to a new kind of state; lets call it "muffled". What I would want to happen to a muffled group, is for it to prevent multiple notifications within a specific window for that group. I would select the group, set the notifications to "muffled", and then set the muffled timing to five minutes (for example). After that group creates a notification, it would not create another notification for the next five minutes (even if half a dozen people replied with half a dozen more messages). After those five minutes are up, it would then allow the next notification for that group message to pass through, and again resume the five minutes of blocking further notifications. If all messages within the group were marked as read before the muffled timing had finished, then the muffled timing would end, and I would again be notified for the next message to arrive for the group. I'd likewise prefer to see this muffled state to affect the repeat notifications option, so that I could be reminded later that I have unread messages, but not have it constantly spamming me until I look.
