Show the number of unread messages on the icon on the homescreen
Done for all the phones that support native badging. Out in Textra 2.6

I completely agree with the comment. A simple count notification should be standard. I shouldn't have to install an entire app just to get that functionality!

You shouldn't have to purchase nova launcher or any other launcher, and install third party plugins, to get functionality that should come native with this app. I don't want to have to modify my phone's behavior with a new launcher to get this one app to work. the count badge icon is the only thing this app is missing that every other app has natively.

as someone else mentioned, buy nova prime launcher and use Tesla unread plugin . works flawlessly with textra and displays unread count

Yes. Unread sms count will be very helpful. It will great if we can filter between read and Unread messages.

Can't believe it isn't included... wtf textra

this would make the app almost perfect... with the addition of a neat lock screen notification, I don't like the current lock screen notification. it needs to have one like the default message apps

This feature is really needed. I agree that just depending on the icon isn't enough. I'd like to see a counter on the actual textra icon on my home screen. Hope this comes soon!

Can't believe it doesn't do this! Uninstalling immediately.

Download Nova Launcher to replace your default UI. install the nova settings add-on and you can have unread counts for any app you download.

this would really, really help. this is probably one of the most useful features of a messaging app and it's missing from this one. stock messaging has this, WhatsApp, Facebook messenger.... an unread count badge would really be awesome in textra. there are widgets you can use. but android will not allow a widget on the main block on the bottom of the home screen. and I like textra front and center on every page on my phone. please please please... ;-)

this is helpful to see a visual that unread messages still exist.

Will developer be adding the missed messages to the icon?

Nova launcher supports Textra for anyone wanting the unread count on app icon.

Maybe even just a 1x1 widget that displays the unread count. If the widget is tapped it opens the latest message, first unread, or just opens textra.
