Can I Convert Only Certain Emails From a PST File?
I have an old PST containing years of email, but I don’t actually want to export the entire mailbox. I mainly need messages from particular dates and a few specific folders. Searching around for selective PST data extraction seems to be a common requirement, especially when dealing with large archives.
The DRS Softech PST File Converter Tool caught my attention because it supports selective conversion instead of requiring the whole PST to be processed. You can preview the mailbox first and then use filters such as date range, sender and subject to narrow down what gets exported.
It also has an option to handle attachments separately. For example, PDF attachments can be saved into a separate folder, or you can choose to migrate emails without attachments if the attachments aren’t required.
There’s also a “skip existing exports” setting, which sounds useful if you need to run the conversion more than once without continually creating another copy of everything.
I like having a preview stage before committing to an export because old PSTs can contain unexpected folders and archived material.
For people who have worked with large Outlook archives, do you normally export the complete PST for backup, or extract only the emails you actually need? I’m leaning toward the selective approach because it seems much easier to manage afterward.
