notification sound in conversations
I know Textra "intentionally" disabled sounds while a conversation is open, but I would like this to be an actual option. I'm not always staring at the screen and I don't always exit from the app/convo. Unless I'm watching the phone I can never tell when someone responds (while convo is open). Just make it an OPTION!
Added in Release 3.19 of Textra out first week in May. Email us for an advance copy at help@textra.me if you cannot wait ;-)

Make this happen, please!

Exactly...may seem petty to some people, but makes it a deal breaker for others. You could be waiting for a response to a message longer than what your screen/lock time is, and end up missing it.

I've been trying to get TEXTRA to address this for almost 2 years now. I used TEXTRA for so long until I was waiting on a ride and had locked my screen while in the conversation. The person picking me up tried texting me multiple times to let me know they were there. But they gave up and left me stranded thinking I didn't need a ride anymore. Now I've been using Google messenger and its buggy but at least notifies me if my screen locks. I come bad periodically because I miss textras customizability but usually delete within the day when I see they haven't changed this ignorant mistake. Their sister app chomp just isn't the same. It doesn't have the same materialistic interface all throughout the app.

This feature would make this a 6-Star app for me. Out of 5!! The only thing that bugs me about textra. I text a lot and am not always looking at my screen, and I enjoy my privacy, so my phone locks when I close it. Notifications while inside the conversation would be amazing

Also the option for customizable notifications for specific contacts would be nice

I totally agree; having to periodically check the screen to see if the person I'm conversing with typed a msg sucks.

yeah - this is really a tragic oversight - I'm ready to dump textra - due to the fact I hear NOTHING WHEN IN A CONVERSATION AND A RESPONSE ARRIVES.

Yes please. Often times I'll have the app already open, but idle in the background. So messages get missed and lead to misunderstandings...

Not having this option is extremely irritating. If you're not staring at your phone then you'll never know when the other person answers back

The only thing about this app I don't like and the only reason I don't use it anymore. If this was an option I would use it and donate for pro version.

Samsung Galaxy S6 - no sound or vibration when contact is open. It was working, but isn't now. App was updated recently on phone. This is the reason why I use the app. Didn’t like the way Samsung handled an open conversation. Thanks.

Yeah I don't like that I need to close the app every time so I can get the sound next time I get a text

Im amazed why this option still not enabled. Guys like me would leave Textra if it not be enabled in the near future. Hope Textra team will make option for enabling or disabling this function in the next update.

I have been using Textra for about a week and in general I like it. A couple of things have become an issue though. The intentional lack of notification while in a conversation is a deal breaker. It should at least be a toggle OPTION. It is not up to the developers to decide if I need to be notified of each incoming text or whether it is an annoyance to me. It's far worse to miss important messages. Don't assume that everyone has the phone glued to their hands for an ongoing convo or continually close out of it. As many others have said here, I have missed so many texts because of this issue. I have also noticed that it happens randomly while still in a convo. The other annoying issue is that by pressing the send button it boots me back to the lock screen which then shuts down the phone. I will forfeit the indivdual notification sounds feature and go back to the stock app so that I don't continually miss texts. It's too bad because until these issues became a big annoyance I was seriously thinking of upgrading to the paid app because Textra has some great features. However lacking basic functionality is a deal breaker for me.

Facebook Messenger has the option. No reason for Textra not to as well. Have it set to "off" as default. If we want it, we elect to turn it on. Seems simple enough.

I don't think it's enough to complain. Please cast your 3 votes next to the title of this feedback, so it could get the support or development team's attention!!!

Love the app but this is really annoying. Please enable this function or I'm going to have to install something else :(
