New message indicator on home screen icon

I wish the icon on the home screen had a notification indicator if I had a new message. For example, in AT&T Messaging it shows a 1,2 or three for the number of text messages you've received.

    I use get bubble on home screen when new messages now I don't so have to open app to see..how can I fix

    Yeah mine recently went away too. Might have been when I changed phones? Had a Samsung (worked) and now a moto Z (not working)

    I will change apps if this is not added. There are to many other ones available

    agreed... it would be great to see a "counter" on the icon itself if u have a new message

    Mine has the number 99 permanently on it. I can't figure out how to update it.

    My textra app had this, but it recently went away, possibly with the February 19, 2015 update. Can't see how to get it back in settings.
