Why can I not attach files. This seems like a very generic and necessary feature. It is a feature that I think every user either wants or needs. Please update us on whether you are correcting this deficiency. I like the program and would like to keep using it, but for me, it will not work if I cannot send files. Please let us know

I tried to attach some videos and I couldn't, but I found that I could do so in WhatsApp which I don't normally use.

I'm running Textra on my Galaxy S8 and the "+" sign allows me to add smiley's, camera clicks, photos, people, gifs and time. But I don't see where I can add file attachments to the text. I've read where its possible but I don't see it on my phone.

I've just had the same problem not being able to insert pictures with + sign with my new Huawei P40 Pro .. Solution: Settings > Display > More Display Settings > Full Screen Display > Toggle Textra to On .. and things work again ..

Paper clip to add photo, video or document would be great.

Great texting app! I use it to communicate with different groups of friends, depending on the issue, and it works great! But I can't see how I can add a new contact or remove one from a group I've created... this is a serious limitation, so I hope I'm just overlooking something?

I recently reinstalled Textra and I couldn't figure out how to attach a pic other than through my photo albums but then I realized the + on the left of the "Message ___" box is what you click to bring up all the attachment options.

Okay this should solve the problem for most people. It's not, or at least I don't think it is, a Textra problem. I think it's a new feature in Android. It's the Auto Hide feature of your navigation bar at the bottom. Go into your Android settings>Display >Home Touch Buttons>Hide Home Touch Buttons.
Once in there, you should see a list of apps with toggles. Scroll down to Textra and switch the toggle off. This solved the problem for me. Your picture Banner at the bottom is still showing up, but your home buttons are covering it because they're not Auto hiding like they're supposed to be. Switching this off puts it back to normal and everything works -

Plus sign is not intuitive. I had to do an online help search to discover that the "+" was what I needed to click to attach an image. Changing the icon to paperclip 📎 would be much clearer.

We have all been using the paperclip to add pics, etc.
Why do you feel it needed to be changed?
Stop doing these unnecessary updates. -

The plus sign used to allow me to attach a doc, gif, pic, emoji...but now it's ALL emojis. I know about going into settings, the nav bar, size of whatever....blah, blah, blah. I've done it with positive results 3x in 4 mos. It doesn't work anymore. Now what?

Every other app in the world uses a paper clip symbol. It makes more logical sense than a plus sign. Assholes.

The + sign is ok. MacBook uses it. Perhaps a clip would be better understood by more folk.
If you're hitting the + sign and it's turning into an X and not letting you add pics, etc, something is bothering Textra and causing this.
For some Samsung folk, as is recorded here, it was solved by changing something in settings to do with hiding home buttons. If you not using Samsung this probably won't help as not all Androids have navigation adjustment settings.
I have a Pixel XL and was having the same problem... couldn't add attachments. I found my problem. I had just installuan app called Edge Gestures and it was making Textra misbehave. Fortunately this new app gave me the option of disengaging it whenever I used Textra. Problem solved.
If your + is turning to an X and you have no way to add attachments, don't curse Textra. Think. Search. Something is messing with Textra. Find it.
