Notification icon won't dissappear even though I have already read the message.
This happens often. I have a galaxy s 6 on Verizon with latest firmwares and updates. How to fix?

I have had this problem on my AT&T S6 twice in the past three days.
First, it wouldn't clear after reading a new message and the contact kept having the blue dot indicating there was something new when there wasn't. I restarted, I cleared data caches, I then deleted the entire conversation for it to stop.
Then, the icon in my top bar showed up again but in an entirely different color than what I set and it won't clear. I have no unread messages and no drafts of any kind.
WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING.
