Why are text messages split after 66 characters? It made it very expensive sending texts when I was on holiday in Turkey.

Special characters issue. But to complicate things what characters this is, is language dependent.

I suggest to turn on the character counter and if you see a sudden jump, you have used a character that requires textra to jump to unicode. OR avoid anything not standard A-Z and yes that can be a problem with national letters,
