Option to send long SMS messages as MMS message
Along side the option to split SMS messages, I would like to have the option to send a text MMS message if the characters exceed 160. This would come in handy for messages with alot of emoticons and other random things.
This has been completed in v3.22 of Textra. It’s a global setting (for all contacts) as well as customizable on a per contact basis (for example you only need it for sending to friends on Verizon network if you are on t-mobile). Out this week.

I like this idea! It should not be programmed to only convert messages that are more than160 characters, though, because adding an emoticon limits the character count. I want messages that normally would be split into multiple texts to automatically convert to MMS text messages.

Despite how superior Textra is, and how every other truly meaningful option you'd ever want is present, the CORE function of converting longer messages to MMS like iPhone and non-CDMA carriers (my carrier is GSM but CDMA people I message have my message split up by their carriers) is missing and it's quite core enough for me to have to use a different messaging app as much as I hate to. Please, PLEASE add this feature or provide some instruction on how to achieve it!

Splitting SMS messages is messy, mine often arrive out of order, which can make for confusing conversations. Having a setting that automatically converts to MMS after 140 chars would be extremely helpful!

I agree. In other apps I've always been able to add an emoji to convert the sms to mms so my long texts go over in one part not 2 or more.

I agree with you all and am saddened that I must start using a different app. Even stock messaging apps come with the subject mms option. Because my friends and family all use different text apps, I've found that adding a subject & converting the message to mms allows the recipient to receive the entire message in one single delivery. With Textra some of my texts are delivered only 2 sentences at a time. That is not only ridiculous it is also annoying as hell to the receiver. I love textra, and believe me when I say Ive tried tons of SMS apps, but I love my friends more so have to switch to another app. that offers the subject/mms conversion. If Textra ever adds that option I'd be back in a heartbeat.

I agree. I was frankly quite surprised when I found this missing from Textra. Every other messaging app I've ever used on Android (and it has been many) had some sort of option to change an SMS to a MMS message by adding a subject to the message and/or by automatically converting it when it reached a certain length.
There definitely needs to be a way to send MMS text messages in Textra, without having to add some attachment like a picture, video, or sound clip. This is a core functionality of messaging that is missing from Textra and should be added soon.
