Is There a Safe Way to Migrate PST and IMAP Mailboxes Without Losing Emails?
I’m currently planning an email migration project and need some advice from people who have already gone through this process. My situation is a bit different because I have two different sources to migrate. First, I have several Outlook PST archive files collected over the years, and second, I have active IMAP mailboxes that are still receiving new emails. My biggest concern is preserving every email, attachment, folder hierarchy, timestamps, and metadata without creating duplicates or missing important messages.
I initially looked at manual methods, but most of them require multiple applications, a lot of configuration, and hours of monitoring. They also don't seem practical when you're handling large mailboxes or multiple user accounts. That's why I've been searching for a solution that can migrate both PST files and IMAP accounts from a single interface.
During my research, I found the DRS Softech Email Migration Tool, and it seems to solve many of the challenges I was worried about. It supports both PST/OST migration and IMAP migration in one application, which means I don't have to use separate utilities. I also liked that it offers bulk migration, preview options, date filters, duplicate removal, attachment management, and direct migration to Microsoft 365, Gmail, IMAP servers, and other destinations.
For IT administrators, another useful feature is Admin Login and Batch/CSV migration, making it possible to migrate multiple mailboxes simultaneously instead of processing them individually. The software also generates migration reports, which is helpful for verifying that everything completed successfully.
Before I make a final decision, I'd really like to hear from people who have actually used it. Did it preserve your folder structure and email properties correctly? Were there any issues with large PST files or IMAP mailboxes? Any real-world experience or recommendations would be greatly appreciated before I begin the migration.
