I often get messages for someone else. They come from a variety of different numbers so blocking by number hasn't been effective. It would be great if there was a way to block messages by content, for example block any message with the word "Ron" in it.

You don't have to send them a message and you don't have to wait for one. You can draft a message, back out so it saves, long press the draft and choose blacklist. It disappears.

I have a htc m9 and the textra app just blacklists a contact when no messages in our out . It seems to just pick one

Do u have to reset your blacklist after every update?

To blacklist a number without receiving a text:
•Select the plus sign on the right bottom of the screen
•Select the number of the person you wish to block. Rather than send a text select the space button several times w/o typing anything
•Select the back button that takes you to the list of your conversations
•Select the "conversation" with the number you want to block and on the top of the screen (right hand side) select the blacklist option

If you want to block a number you have to wait for them to send you a (potentially abusive) text first. That's terrible. You should be able to block any number at any time by inputting the number or selecting the contact. PLEASE FIX THIS.

Ridiculous. You have to receive an SMS before blocking it?!!?
While that's one option, not being able to enter a number manually, or select from contacts list, is ridiculous. An astounding oversight, especially as users have pointed it out to Textra developers for at least a year. App deleted.

The key for me is I want to be able to block them from the contact list, not just once I get a text. I don't want to ever get the text message in the first place. Much less even if I get a text now and block them, but reset my device or change devices, I lose all Textra settings and have to start all over, hoping to never get that text message which I need in order to block them.

there should be a message sent to the blacklisted number to let them know that their messages are not being read and are being bounced back to them.
