Archive Messages

Rather than just permanently delete messages, it would be fantastic if you could archive messages. This was one of the features in Google Hangouts that I used the most and found incredibly helpful.

Sometimes you want to clean up your inbox so you don't have hundreds of conversations floating around in it that you have to scroll through, but you don't necessarily want to lose some conversations forever by deleting them. The ability to Archive conversations in order to move them out of the main inbox view and into a separate archive view for later reference or search would be perfect here, and I believe would appeal to many users.

See the Google Hangouts app for more details on how this could and should work. Would love to see it in Textra! It would make it truly stand apart from the competition!

    This would be good to have if you have important text you received from people such as bills paid that you don't get often but want to save. It keeps the clutter down on the conversation list.

    This is seriously the ONLY feature missing from Textra that would make it the undisputed number one SMS app. As a personal example, I often chat with business clients via text, and sometimes those conversations include information that I do not want to delete, but I do so get tired of the chats clogging up my inbox.

    There's an app for that. "SMS Backup & Restore" saves your stuff as xml files; it's free and simple and does the job; it save's locally or in the cloud or on your SDCard. I'm in favour of "modularization" when it comes to this kind of thing. Keep Textra as slim as possible.

    Why do people need this? Just search forwho you want to see the text from. Or just start a new text to someone and the new text will be added to the existing conversation.

    I do not want Textra to become too heavy and bloated like some other messaging apps, but I hope this is implemented soon! I believe the ability to archive a lot of old threads might even help improve performance.

    I think the Archive feature is just about the only thing missing from this app. Google Messenger and Hangouts have it and even EvolveSMS which is my backup have it, but I love Textra!

    Came here to say the same. Would be awesome to archive or save to SD as text or html file. I feel like having convos with 3k messages slows everything down a a tad.

    Until this feature is available I use My Backup Pro to backup sms on device then automatically upload to Dropbox with Dropsynch.

    This is the one thing missing from Textra to make it the best texting app I've ever used. Please add archiving!

    I just deleted some PRECIOUS texts (grand-kid firsts), because of no archive feature... I'll be finding a normal text program (they almost always have that feature), before I ever lose such moments again,

    Agree with this. Please make it possible to archive messages so we can clean things up and make it much smoother.
