Archive Messages

Rather than just permanently delete messages, it would be fantastic if you could archive messages. This was one of the features in Google Hangouts that I used the most and found incredibly helpful.

Sometimes you want to clean up your inbox so you don't have hundreds of conversations floating around in it that you have to scroll through, but you don't necessarily want to lose some conversations forever by deleting them. The ability to Archive conversations in order to move them out of the main inbox view and into a separate archive view for later reference or search would be perfect here, and I believe would appeal to many users.

See the Google Hangouts app for more details on how this could and should work. Would love to see it in Textra! It would make it truly stand apart from the competition!

    how is this not a thing yet? Great texting app but I'm considering switching back to Google Messenger so that I don't have to delete entire threads.

    Archiving messages would be a great addition. I would not go back to Hangouts because of this as someone else suggested, but I do miss the feature.

    Yes, please add message archiving. even if it's to where we have to archive to a cloud storage option, that would be great for not only myself but for many others as well, I'm sure

    I concur, I found the archiving not on Hangouts which I don't use but on Google Messenger, and I really love this feature

    Some here might find the app SMS Backup+ (author Jan Berkel) a satisfactory alternative. It's available via Google Play Apps.

    It would also be nice if we could backup those archived messages to Google Drive. I use Google Drive, but I'm sure other services could be implemented as well.

    This is what I want. Google messenger has it. I'm hesitant to switch to textra because of this.
