SMS Backup Option - Export + Import Abilities
There is a Knowledge Base article that recommends using other apps to do this. I've tried them and they have not been very reliable or visually pleasing.
I'd love the ability to backup my texts within Textra or export a text file or .html file out that is easy to read and follow along.
Google Drive/Dropbox support would be awesome.
Decipher tools makes a program for IOS that exports texts+mms to html files that keep all the photos within their order. This is great if you go back and are looking for a thread or photo because you can control +F and search or just scroll through the images.
The ability to export and import if you switch devices would also be appreciated.
Thank you as always!
Apologies but there are many SMS Backup apps that do a great job. We want to focus on core features in Textra. We recommend SMS Backup & Restore to do this task.

FYI internet, this works!! It's really simple. IN TEXTRA: "Select the message thread you want to back up. Click the 3 dots in the upper right and select share as an email. Then just email to yourself. It sends every message from that thread to your email as .txt file. Too easy!"

Does Google Backup & Sync now take care of this?

Common, you response (or lack of) is outright a slap in the face to textra users!

Is it because your too stupid to build for it? Other apps have it so Textra should to. I shouldn't have to manually backup and restore my messages. That's just plain stupid and lazy on Textra's part.

The idea is not to have to download another app which can slow down a system. A simple export to file of settings and sms/mms would be important as well as keep people using textra in between phone resets and changes since the backups would be native to textra.
This is actually a feature that has made me search for other texting apps. It's only a matter of time before I and many others move on.

I love so many of the features of Textra... But I just got a new phone and I was incredibly saddened to not have my messages backed up. I paid for the pro version and I'm not sure why. I'm also disappointed to see that your response was "sorry, no". I moved away from the Verizon app because it was lacking a lot of details I wanted... However... It backs your messages!
I would really like to see you listen to the people who actually use and pay for your app.

Surprised to see a hard No to one of the most-requested features listed here. I'd be happy to pay a second time for this critical feature.
"Sorry, No" just isn't good enough from a team that's done an otherwise fantastic job with this app.

SMS Backup & Restore did a great job for me, but Textra has not. As mentioned here, my stock sms program backed up and restored wonderfully. I wonder if Textra is the better option for me, even though i upgraded.

Tried using SMS Backup & Restore (as recommended)to backup my messages and then restore them to a new phone. On the new phone, Textra only sees 3 of the 200+ messages I restored. The stock sms app on the phone can see all of them. Seems like Textra has a lot of work to do regarding message backups and compatibility with other apps/systems.

I'd like to backup my settings and customisations rather than my messages. Can you add this?

Must agree with Paul.
Textra stopped syncing my messages with Android's stock messages app, and thus my messages are only found in Textra's database. The backup option should be a staple for such events, using the similar XML format that most SMS backup & restore apps seem to be using. -

Unfortunately it seems sometimes Textra stops putting messages into the messaging store so I now have messages only in the Textra database that I can not longer export or backup with SMS Backup & Restore.
It would be very good to be able to export the database to xml so it isn't just locked in the Textra database. I have been using Textra for many years now and paid for it as soon as it was available, but this now makes me think I will have to use another app so that I don't lose my messages.

I agree witk Admin!
"SMS Backup & Restore" is free, reliable and simple.
I prefer the current rate of improvements to Textra -

At least give us an option to export/import custom textra settings as others have asked.

"Textra needs the android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW permission for the plus panel to work. Please uninstall Textra and install it again."
That right there is reason enough to expect a basic level service such as a simple settings backup at the very least. It's pretty sad to see this mindset from the devs of an app I've loved for quite some time, and have paid for..
Seeing as I'm going to need to start over now anyway, apparently, I might as well check out pretty apps.

You guys really declined this feature to your app users, after they gave 1,228 votes trying to convince you that this is something they need/want?! Wow! Seeing all this stuff on App Support really makes me second guess using this app & putting more money in your pockets by doing so. Smh!
