I'm on an Android. The comment from Anonymous about the number of people as the name doesn't work, at least for me.
You have to rename the group from the conversation by selecting the name(s) at the top. Then to actually add or delete recipients, start a new conversation and use the search to find the name you just created. Once there, you can add or delete contacts in the existing conversation.
It also appears you have to use the search function because the new name doesn't appear in the Contacts list. I don't know how to get a list of these edited groups. It's not in the people or groups list.
IMHO this is an absurdly complex and user snide interface.
