Reset Outlook View to Default Settings and Fix Layout Issues Easily
I recently faced a strange Outlook issue where my inbox layout suddenly changed. The reading pane shifted, email columns disappeared, and folders were showing in a confusing order. At first, I thought Outlook was corrupted, but later I found that too many view customizations were causing the problem. After searching online, I learned how to Reset Outlook View to Default using Outlook’s built-in options.
The first method that helped me was using the outlook.exe /cleanviews command from the Run dialog. It removed all custom layouts and restored the original Outlook view. I also tried resetting only the Inbox view from the View tab, which fixed the missing columns and message grouping issue instantly.
Another thing that worked was disabling unnecessary Outlook add-ins. Some add-ins were interfering with the display settings and slowing down Outlook. Starting Outlook in Safe Mode also helped me identify whether the issue was related to customization or add-ins.
However, in my case, the layout problem came back again because my PST file was slightly corrupted. That’s when I used the DRS Softech PST Recovery Tool. It repaired the damaged PST file and restored mailbox data without changing the folder structure. After repairing the file, Outlook started working normally again, and the view settings remained stable.
If your Outlook folders look messy, emails are not grouped correctly, or the reading pane disappears randomly, trying to Reset Outlook View to Default is definitely worth it before reinstalling Outlook completely.
