Oh man, I'm trying to find a good SMS/MMS app and this is actually a deal killer for me. I can't believe you can't add a second person to a conversation. I do this all the time, I don't think I can work without it. That's too bad, I really like almost everything else about Textra.

Thanks Anonymous. You're absolutely right. I even missed that subtlety, since I hadn't done this in a while.
The key is to NOT simply select the named conversation from the list in Step 2, but to create a NEW message via the lower right-hand "New Message" button, and type the named conversation's name into the To field. After you select the named conversation you then have the option to add people via the +(person) icon.
And as another Anonymous user stated, this workaround doesn't let you add a SECOND person to a single-person conversation, but will allow you to add a third, fourth, fifth, etc. person to a 2+ person conversation.
We all still hope that Textra will add this functionality natively to an otherwise pretty awesome text messaging app.

Hi Maggie Clarke. Daves way does work but I can see where there may have been some confusion. Step 2, after naming the chat, press back button until you reach main Messages screen. There, the text message icon will be on the bottom right you press that and then type in the conversation name and tada!!

I'm trying to follow the directions but the text icon doesn't come up. I've already spent twice as much time as it would have taken for me to create a new group from scratch and I guess that's all that's left to do. Totally ridiculous

Thanks Dave Dugal & CH! Your workaround *does* work, however contorted.
To summarize:
1) Rename the Conversation by clicking down-arrow on the right edge, then the pencil icon. Call it anything.
2) Hit back to get to the Conversation List, create a new message (text icon in lower right), and type the first couple of letters of the newly renamed Conversation. Select the Conversation from the Conversation List.
3) *NOW* you have what we should've had all along! Click the +(person) icon in the To field and add as many people as you want.Textra Development: PLEASE add the +(person) option to the original, un-renamed Conversation to avoid jumping through so many hoops.

Yeah, come on! Textra is better than other SMS apps in every other way except this. This should be basic functionality.

Good to know that I'm not incompetent or losing my mind. There truly is no way to add a 2nd reciepient to an existing single reciepient thread. WUT. DA. HECK?

come on, Textra, please add this feature. I have used the paid app for many months and like it a lot except for this recent problem I had

The awkward workaround DOES NOT WORK FOR SINGLE Recipient messages that u want to convert to GROUP message. The Pencil icon does not exist for Single Recipient messages -- it is replaced by a Phone-Call icon.
We desperately need this feature that exists in Android stock Messages app and many others.
Make it a Gr8 Day :)

I am no expert but I use textra and there is a way to add new folks to an old group.
FIRST - You have to name the group!
I have names for groups. If I use the search function (input the beginning of a group name and select it) then there is NO functionality to add people. SORRY - wish it were different
BUT
If I select the icon in the lower right to compose a new message and then input a few characters of the GROUP NAME - I can then select the name I want to remove from the top banner or I can select the add person icon.
It's a little work aroundish - but it works. Hope that helps. -

This seems like a basic function that should have been included all along.

Adding and removing recipients to a group text is probably one of the most commonly used features. Also the ability to cut and paste images in text. Initially I was planning to purchase this app after the free trial but all I hear from the developers of this app are crickets to these basic issues. Seems this app is no longer supported. Will not purchase.

Yes, please allow "add people" to people in conversation. The default texting program allows this.

If I am sending repeatedly more SMS to some group of my clients. After some months, there are some new clients added. I want to add them also to old conversatin and not to have to set new group and once old added clients have to pick again. I want to only add some of the new clients.
You may say, it is not the same conversation. Maybe, but who cares? Or how to solve this more elegant?
