type text first, choose contact later
I'm used from my old phones to FIRST type my messages and THEN choose the recipient. I'm a bit flabbergasted that Textra doesn't let you do this. ... Even the Samsung stock messaging app allows this.

Change Group Text Icon
I would like the option to change the icon for a group, much like we can change our contact photo icons. it is aggravating to have to see a number instead of a picture I could customize somehow.

Contacts numbers
Could it be possible to permanently DISPLAY the number of the contact I'm writing to?
Many contacts are saved with more than one number. And depending on which number I'm writing to, I will have to choose my sending SIM card.
Because of this I've drained all my money sending to the wrong number of a contact.2 votes -

Hey there I need to export my blacklist to a file to share it with someone. Can you add a feature to export and import the blocked numbers? Prefeberaly as a human readable format like excel. Thanks.

Voice e voi Voice Recognition
It would be a nice addition to incorporate voice recognition training along with typing, to train the app to recognize more complex words and names when voice texting.
perhaps even to update the tools built in through voice texting so the system can recognize when you wish to enter a comma, exclamation mark, enter a space after a sentence to create a new sentence or paragraph etc.
I've noticed an increase in the error rate percentage lately, and quite frankly it is annoying.
You guys have really good software here,but it could be so much better.

blacklist
we need an option to add all blacklisted numbers to the Android blocked numbers list as well. or just make that default. having to manually add them there so we don't have to add them on setup of new device is a must. or just read what is there and import to Textra and keep the lists in parallel from there on out.

Can we have mark as read on the notification instead of mark as unread? Or at least have the option to change it between the two.

Group photo option
The ability to add a specific image to the circle for the group rather than their individual pictures showing on the group notification. Similar to how Facebook Messenger does it.

Notification Groups
I think I'd be really nice if we had groups for our notifications. Instead of having to find each contact in a group that we want a notification for, we just change the group.
Example:
I have two main groups with different notification sounds/vibrations/colors. For family and for automated (bank,amazon,etc.)Instead of having to track down all family members to highlight together and make a change to all of them, I would create a "notification group" and assign them to that group. Then, if I wanted to update the notifications for my family, I would just change the group settings.…

auto archive older messages
for certain people I would really really like to periodically auto archive messages over a certain age or maybe even number threshold. to manually archive when I remember to, I send as email to my gdrive and name it e.g. "Candace thru Jan 2018" then I lower the message limit to 2000 and after it cleans up I reset it back to unlimited.
related to but different in use case from the auto archive idea.
