A Complete Redesign
As most Android apps are now using bottom navigation bar instead of top because Phones are getting taller
So a bottom navigation bar makes sense.1 vote -

Sort messages by time sent instead of received
Sometimes messages get delayed on my carrier, so if Textra had an option to display & sort messages according to the sent time instead of the received time, that would be very handy, especially when trying to make sense of group chats.

"You:" text in message list
If I'm looking at the main list of all of the people I've texted, I want to be able to tell which message previews are for messages I've received and which ones are for ones I've sent. Android Messages does this by appending "You: " to the beginning of messages you've sent in the preview.

Fix a group chat so it works when you go to a different country, like Android messages
My wife and I and my daughter group chat all the time. They use Android messages, I use textra. For them to be chat with fine, for me all of my messages fail to send trauma even if I start a new message addressed to the two of them because it gets attached to the group chat. When travelling outside the US I have to switch to Android messages to be able to text with them.

Clean contact photos
In the top corner of a conversation, i think it would look much cleaner if the contact photo didn't have a white border. Pictured here, ignore the low quality lol https://imgur.com/a/km33Cid

send SMS thru Wi-Fi or 4G,
not only with mobile network.
for example there's iMessage for iPhones, but would be nice to be able to do the same with everyone.

Automatic Text Forwarding
It would be amazing if Textra could automatcally forward received texts immediately to another selected email account or phone number. Feature could be toggled on or off and could be set for all texts or just select contacts.

time stamp font
the light gray small font of the time/date stamp is way too small and light. if keeping that size then make it bold and black. or just make it bigger and bold. way too small as of now. also each message should have a time stamp.

Incoming Message Sound Option
Incoming Message Sound Option Please. We have the sending message sound option but the incoming woould be very helpful. Ex- When you finish typing a message and walk away, the person replies but there isn't any sound to let you know that they have replied. Like Apple's instant message. Thank you. Love this app; keep up the good work.

Blacklist Backup
Many users demanded this. Please bring this feature, so that when we format our phone or change it, we can restore the list.

Chat group
Add an option to disable group sending message during a received or sent group conversation. This allows the user to choose whether the message goes to a private chat person or group.
To avoid sending or receiving a private message after sending or recrived a photo to give an example.
Hoping that the idea will be realized

Add Swipe Right to open Message List when in a Conversation
Would save taps and allow a user to navigate to a conversation at-a-glance!

single-spaced please 😀
I think it would be great to decrease space between text recipients; it's like as if they were double-spaced instead of single-spaced, like on most other texting apps. That way you could see more texts for more people without having to scroll down.
