On my Oneplus 3T, the phone won't add a notification to the list while using (/or recently using/) the app while multi-tasking. I've missed so many text messages because I was watching youtube up above textra, having the conversation end so using youtube full screen and not getting any new messages while the screen is on.
As a stop-gap, I've enabled the notification sound/vibration to go off when the app is open. So I at least know that I have a message to check.
