I think contact widgets with take this app to a whole nother level. it would be amazing if you could long press a contact/conversation and it would give you an option utilize a widget on your main screen.
a widget similar to Facebook's messenger would be nice

Default/System Heads-Up Notification
Include an option that will allow users to use their device default (or system) heads-up notification. Not all users like Textra's own heads-up (tap to reply) notification.

I would like to have more flexible control over SMS/MMS, depending on who I am sending to and what the context is. Since there is no way to change this on-demand, It is very tedious to have to back out of my message, go into settings, return to my message, send it, then go back into settings and change it again. I would prefer to be able to leave the Settings as permanent/default, with the ability to make ad hoc message changes.
Current behavior:
-Start composing message
-Back out of my message

Add option to include phone number type next to number
I frequently use custom number types to identify different employees in an organization. Currently, Textra doesn't allow me to distinguish between them like some other SMS apps do.

my only problem is that it pauses youtube videos. a feature to not only quick text but keep that window open while your watching would be a blessing

Can you add button for start writting message before selecting contact?
I prefere it (sms, email...) because of danger to accidental sending message while it is still written. Waiting time for real sending SMS is nice, but if you cancel sending during the period, than it is not possible, or it is hard, to change receiver/contact for this message anymore.

stop exit after message on Samsung Galaxy S4
frustratingly, textra always exits after a message is entered, completely losing the thread on Samsung Galaxy S4.
to send a second message to the same recipient, you have to reenter the application again and select the recipient again

Background
In the basic messaging app installed on my phone, i am capable of changing the background of a conversation to any picture i want. this would be great to do! Rather then the plain solid shades of black grey or white....

Samsung s8 notification
Please Samsung S8 has a small bar of notification real nice by the way, it works with WhatsApp and the stock messenger but not with textra witch I love. please if your guys make that happen.

Total count of messages in a thread
Total count of messages in a thread like the default messaging app does. Right now we have to swipe each thread to view the count.
