Everybody that grew up with that as the standard messaging method already knows, there are no read receipts possible.

All it can do, is return a receive notification from the recipient's device but THAT'S IT.

I can see why people want this, but this is not possible via SMS

This would require a service to be created, like iMessages is a service. Technically RCS could serve that, however, this is dependent on Google dropping the API available to do so. As of now Google has not.

Personally adding support for the signal protocol for Textra to Textra users to add a huge layer of security would be great as RCS is not e2ee encrypted. Once again this would add a service that would need to be maintained.

I think using the signal protocol, falling back to RCS, then standard SMS.

How does What's App provide the "read" and "typing {real time responding}" functionality & why can't you provide the same??

This isn't possible for SMS. RCS support will come eventually, so this should be closed since there is a suggestion for RCS already

Well the new stock android messaging app has this built in now. it would be nice if it is open for third party apps to start using it. then all apps could have it and would get the notifications regardless of the app being used.

This is a wasted vote. SMS simply doesn't have this functionality. The only way this could be implemented would be if the message read status was sent separately via the internet to a 3rd party textra server. The recipient of the message would obviously need to be running textra.

But if you were doing that why not just send the message via the internet too? Well because then you'd just have another WhatsApp clone and not an SMS app...

I would love this!! At the very least, maybe this feature can be implemented when the recipient is using Textra too.

It is only possible to know of the person received the message. It's impossible to know if he is reading it or replying to you. Google it, impossible x)

Y'all are used to imessage. Their is no way to do this over just text
