notification sound
please add a function to be able to select through the app, a ringtone (mp3) file instead or as well as accessing the phone notification sounds. simply because in my shiny new Samsung s9 you can't create and install custom bloody notifications. they don't' have the option.

Default Contact Icon
Can you please add a default contact icon where are no pictures? Please ensure that the icon is not the default Android but a textra special or you could give the user option to choose either. This will avoid # like contact indicators.

Option to select date mode
Today Textra shows dates in MM/DD/YY order. It would be great if the user could choose/override the system date order.

Multi-message heads up
Android Messages allows multiple messages in a conversation to accumulate in the heads up until dismissed. Please add this to both the Textra and Android heads up implementations in your app. Thanks!

Combined Bubbles
For consequtive, uninterrupted message streaks (sent and received) within 5-10 minutes of each other, the chat bubbles should stack neatly instead of appearing to be totally separate, similar to how Apple does it as well as Facebook Messenger.

Ability to split texts into "slides" and then send at one time as separate messages
My former Galaxy S3 & S5 allowed me to "Add slide" in it's stock messaging app. There are many times where I wanted to send multiple messages to one recipient but by the time I'm typing my 3rd message they've already responded to my first text which then throws off the entire conversation. The "add slide" feature allowed me to write the first message, then I would hit add slide which would basically create a page break in the text box where I could then type the 2nd message, and so on. HAVE OPTION TO AUTO OPEN KEYBOARD
When I open a text thread I would love if the keyboard auto popped up and then also maybe have the option to auto hide after text sent or just tap on a empty space to hide keyboard and I love the swipe up to open the keyboard again.

Text bubble padding??
Please update with option to increase padding around text in chat bubbles. Should be easy update and is standard on most sms apps. Thanks.

dual-sim conversation
I have a friend with a dual-sim and for some unknown reason I sometimes receive the message on his other number.
It would be nice to have the option to show the conversation from both number in one with some different colours.3 votes -
MMS notif. showing sender
I get frustrated when my data hasn't been on and then I get the "MMS message cannot be received" notification.
This does not let me know who sent the MMS. On my old phone running KitKat, my Messages app would show un-downloaded MMSs in the sender's conversation so I would know who they were from.
This way, when I'm out of data for the month, I have no idea who to text and request the picture to be sent as an email.

Option to clip the head and tail when recording custom vibration pattern?
This is more of a small QoL improvement but it would be really useful to be able to delete the interval before the first tap and after the last one when recording a custom vibration pattern. Then you could focus only on the interval between vibrations and not worry about hitting it right away to prevent an initial delay. Thanks!
