Folder support
Would be great if it were possible to create folders for conversations/contacts. Like create a folder for family, a folder for friends, and a folder for work contacts. This would make it easy to organize text messages.

Area Code Customisation
It would be brilliant if it was possible to customize a specific sound to a particular telephone area code. I receive messages from an area code that require my immediate attention. A unique sound for those messages would be a great asset!

When a text comes in it hides the whole notification block and then shows all unread texts clearing the notification for a second making hard to read multiple texts as they come through

Space Saver Setting
A potential feature is to provide a space saver slide bar in Settings to determine how much space to use between the phone and cloud therefore simultaneously managing space and archival/backup capabilities.

please recognize messages from the same number and amalgamate into same string
since May 5 2025 messages from the same person and number are not being recognized as coming from them. I have two separate strings although their number has not changed and they are in my contacts. This has occured with two correspondents. At first I thought this was because I had been using an esim with data only on a recent trip but this started with a second contact 4 days later. I can preview their message which is notified but when I click on it, only the messages they sent prior to my travel appear and no more recent…

Message Sorting /Message Archive
Either create a means to archive messages from specific numbers you want to keep but not keep in your main feed (such as stores and memberships you signed up for/appointment reminders/ receipts /ads)
or
- create Folders to sort them so that you can keep a shorter main list of all your most important conversations right up front.

Spam Text!!! Do something about it!
All these like and suggestions regarding spam and still the developers hasn't reacted. These spam texts are getting way out of control and blocklisting ALL of them isn't helpful. I like this app and has had it for years now but these spam texts and the lack of ability to weed them out has me considering on switching apps..one that can better protect from this annoyance.

hyperlinks included in sms are sometime a quick way to go to the right place The downside is that it is also very dangerous, especially for an elderly person who is easily tricked. Is it possible to have an option to disable or delete any hyperlink included in an SMS?

Automatic Replies
This feature would be nice to have for times when you do not want to be disturbed. This is different from the do not disturb feature. It would be nice to communicate that you are currently unavailable for text messages from certain senders.

option to remove or change what swipes do on contacts
swiping on my contacts gives me the option to call them or delete their chats the swipe is also very sensitive so I'd like to disable it while you add that you could add the option to change what swipes do Google messenger has this
