1. Best free tool I've found for accurate translations lately

Been dealing with a lot of translation work recently and wanted to share something that's actually been really helpful. I tried a bunch of different tools before landing on https://www.deepl.com/uk/translator , the accuracy is honestly way better than most alternatives I've used, especially with context and tone. It's free to use for basic translations too. Anyone else here have tools they swear by for this kind of thing? Always curious what's working for other people.

5. Best Way to Migrate Google Shared Drive Data

Migrating Google Shared Drive data is an important task for businesses that are restructuring their teams, consolidating Google Workspace accounts, or moving data to another cloud storage platform. Shared drives contain valuable business documents, spreadsheets, presentations, project files, and other collaborative content. Unlike files stored in an individual's My Drive, shared drive files belong to the organization, helping teams maintain access to important information even when employees leave. Therefore, choosing the right Google Shared Drive migration method is essential for maintaining data integrity, folder organization, and team productivity.

Why Do Businesses Migrate Google Shared Drive Data?

Organizations may need to migrate shared drive data when moving to a new Google Workspace tenant, consolidating departments, reorganizing projects, or switching to another cloud storage service. A well-planned migration helps businesses centralize their files, improve data management, and maintain access to essential documents.

However, moving shared drive data involves more than copying files. Administrators must consider folder structures, file ownership, sharing permissions, access roles, and the compatibility of the destination platform. Without proper planning, users may lose access to important files or struggle to locate documents after migration.

Best Methods to Migrate Google Shared Drive Data

There are different ways to migrate Google Shared Drive data, depending on the amount of information, the destination, and the organization's technical requirements.

   1. Manual migration: For a small number of files, administrators can download documents from the source shared drive and upload them to the destination. Although this method is straightforward, it can become time-consuming for large repositories and may not preserve all sharing settings or file relationships.

   2. Google Workspace administration tools: Organizations moving data between Google Workspace environments should evaluate Google's supported transfer and administration options. The available methods depend on the migration scenario, account permissions, and the content that needs to be transferred.

   3. Automated migration software: For larger projects, dedicated migration software can help streamline file transfers, manage folder structures, and reduce repetitive administrative work. Before selecting a tool, verify its support for the source and destination platforms, shared drives, permissions, and reporting requirements.

Migrate Google Shared Drive Data with Shoviv Google Drive Migration Tool

The Shoviv Google Drive Migration Tool is an option businesses can evaluate when planning cloud drive migration projects. Shoviv develops data migration software designed to help organizations manage transfers between supported cloud storage platforms. Before using the tool specifically for shared drive migration, confirm its current support for your exact source, destination, and shared drive requirements.

Depending on the supported migration configuration, a suitable migration solution can help administrators transfer files in a structured manner, organize migration tasks, and reduce the manual effort involved in moving large volumes of data. This can be particularly useful for businesses handling multiple departments, project repositories, or large shared drive collections.

When evaluating Shoviv for your migration, check whether the selected product supports the following requirements:

   • Migration of files and folders from Google Shared Drives.
   • Transfer to the intended destination cloud platform.
   • Preservation of folder hierarchy and supported file properties.
   • Handling of shared drive permissions and user access.
   • Filtering or selective migration of required data.
   • Migration reports and error tracking for verification.

These capabilities should be confirmed against the current product documentation and your specific migration scenario before starting a production transfer.

   Visit here:

   1. https://www.shoviv.com/google-shared-drive-migration.html
   2. https://www.shoviv.com/google-shared-drive-backup.html

Best Practices for a Successful Shared Drive Migration

Before beginning the migration, review the source shared drives and identify the files, folders, users, and permissions that must be transferred. Remove unnecessary duplicates only after receiving the appropriate approval, and document the existing folder structure to make destination validation easier.

Next, verify that the destination environment has enough storage and that the migration account has the required permissions. Run a pilot migration with a small set of representative files and folders. After the test, check file counts, folder organization, document accessibility, and sharing permissions where supported.

For large migrations, divide the work into manageable batches and monitor progress throughout the process. Keep the original shared drive available until the transferred data has been validated and business owners have confirmed that essential documents remain accessible.

   Conclusion

The best way to migrate Google Shared Drive data depends on your data volume, destination platform, permission requirements, and project complexity. Manual methods may work for small transfers, while automated migration software can help simplify larger projects. By planning carefully, testing the selected method, and verifying the migrated content, organizations can reduce disruption and maintain access to important business information. Businesses considering the Shoviv Google Drive Migration Tool should confirm its current shared drive migration capabilities and destination compatibility before proceeding.

9. Option to block SMS/MMS sent by email

As AT&T Active armor has turned off their option to block these possible spam/phishing texts sent by email due to Google Messages having their own version in app, I think it best for Textra to come up with a similar solution for those of us unwilling to prostrate ourselves to the will of Google. Especially as it seems scam calls and scammers have become more aggressive in recent months, giving this option to users will allow us to continue to protect ourselves and filter unwanted spam/phishing attempts.

Thank you in advance to the team behind Textra. May your autumn be crisp and cozy.

19. What are the main issues and solutions when you do MySQL Migration

Last month, one of my acquaintances, working as a sysadmin at a small logistics company, got in touch with me in a panic. One of their on-premise SQL servers was approaching the end of its lifecycle, and the company had decided to migrate to Azure SQL. He thought it was going to be a routine task to complete over the weekend. Instead, the migration took five days, a lot of failed restores, and a few collation-related dramas. He had already attempted three different migration tricks that supposedly required no third-party software and ended up with two test databases in disarray before deciding to ask my advice.

    Free / Manual Migration: Step-by-Step

If you are determined to use a free, but legitimate method to migrate your database to a new server, here is what you would have to do:

    1. Take backup of the database that you want to migrate. Simply open SSMS, right-click the database, go to Tasks > Backup, and save the .bak file in the desired location.

    2. Transfer the .bak file to the destination server (or blob storage, in case of migrating to Azure).

    3. Restore the database on the target server. Right-click Databases, choose Restore Database, and follow the wizard’s instructions. In case of migrating an MSSQL database to Azure SQL, you may want to use SqlPackage.exe (.bak file format is not supported by Azure) or “Deploy Database to Microsoft Azure SQL Database” wizard in SSMS.

    4. Fix collation or schema-related issues. This step can be surprisingly time-consuming as you will have to make sure that all users, logins, and permissions are properly restored on the target server.

    5. Migrate data: you may either restore the database using the .bak/.bacpac file or use Import/Export Wizard / bcp utility (in case of using different versions of SQL Server). This step can take a lot of time, especially for large databases.

    6. Point your applications to the new database instance. Make sure to update all connection strings and firewall settings.

    Common Migration Pitfalls

I asked my friend what went wrong during the migration, and he had quite a list:

    • MDF/NDF file issues: if the source database was faulty, any attempt to restore it on a new server would fail.

    • Version mismatches: he tried to restore the backup in SQL Server 2012 after taking it from SQL Server 2019.

    • Collation mismatches: the collation of the source and destination servers did not match, which led to many join-related errors.

    • Orphaned users: some users were missing on the destination server, while some had different permissions.

    • Absent objects: some functions, triggers, and foreign keys were lost during the migration.

    • Cross-database querying: Azure SQL does not allow cross-database queries and has a limited set of stored procedures and functions compared to on-premises SQL Server.

    • Large payloads: migrating large databases to Azure SQL often results in timeout errors.

    • Tools’ shortcomings: the tools that he used did not have an option to skip corrupt pages during restoration.

    • Time constraints: the weekend was not the best time to schedule a migration, especially as it involved databases with critical data.

After helping my friend recover two test databases, I decided to investigate the issue further. It seems that many database administrators have similar stories and are now opting for a commercial solution called Kernel Migration for SQL Server. The main advantage of this tool is that it can be used to both migrate healthy and corrupt databases, with minimal downtime. Users can preview all database objects before migrate SQL server database and transfer data directly to Azure SQL, Amazon RDS, or a local instance of SQL Server. In all, Kernel Migration for SQL Server can be a great alternative to manual migration for companies that want to avoid the risks that come with using third-party tools.

He had already attempted three different migration tricks that supposedly required no third-party software and ended up with two test databases in disarray… more

20. Access Database Showing Errors When Opening

I had trouble opening an Access database because it kept showing errors. I first checked the file location and made a backup. Since Compact and Repair didn't resolve the issue, I tried a database recovery utility to scan the file and preview recoverable objects before saving the recovered data separately.
